Perry Florida is a city between Tallahassee and Gainesville. It is the seat of Taylor County, Florida and was named for Madison Perry, the fourth Governor of Florida.  We are a quick 21-mile drive to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.  The city of Perry has a population of about 7,000 people.  Perry has that small town feel, rich in history and heritage where many of the streets are still canopy lined in magnificent oaks.  Despite Hurricane Idalia making landfall on our coast less than a year ago and blowing right through Perry, the townspeople have pulled together and are recovering in quick fashion.  Perry hosts multiple festivals annually at our Forest Capital Museum State Park.  A Bluegrass Festival, BBQ Festival, and our very popular Florida Forest Festival.

Taylor County is nestled in the “Big Bend” region of Florida with a population of about 27,000 residents and was deemed the “Tree Capital of the South” in 1965 by then Governor W. Haydon Burns.  The county  spans over 1,200 square miles and has one of the longest coastlines in Florida.  With approximately 982 square miles of woods, ponds, creeks, and coastline Taylor County is prime for some of the best hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing to be found.

The residents of Perry are employed by a wide range of businesses and professions in the area.  Unfortunately, Taylor County suffered a blow in late 2023 with the closing of our local cellulose paper mill which was a major employer since the 1950’s.  Despite the setback to the lumber industry Perry still has a wide range of employment opportunities.  In addition to popular retail and grocery stores, we also have private manufacturers making everything from potato chips, munitions, to aircraft shelters.

Perry and Taylor County have both public and private educational facilities for early and primary students.  Taylor County High School (TCHS) is home to the Bulldogs.  Perry is also home to Big Bend Technical College with programs to prepare students for careers in nursing, welding, and mechanics just to name a few.  North Florida College, a community college has a Perry location and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges.

Our Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We, engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian Love; to strive for advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regular to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the education of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealing, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
